| The Skeeter |
This is the front view of the Skeeter, shown next to a pad of Post-It Notes. The dimensions of the Skeeter are 3 3/8" x 4" x 1/8" thick. It's so thin that it seems impossible that it could be gimmicked. And yet, it will take a perfect impression of anything your participant writes. Furthermore, you can peek this information in full view of the audience! Keep in mind that my devices are meant to be used regularly for optimal performance, and if they sit unused for long periods, the wax can sometimes harden causing the magic slate to not work. The wax must be soft and somewhat sticky for the device to function properly. Sometimes warming up the board, and using the slate a few times will restore the slate to working order. I've had people contact me saying they ordered a Hornet or Butterfly a year or two years ago, and this is the first time they've tried to use it, and it doesn't work. I'm not surprised. If you leave your car sitting unused in the driveway for a year or two in the driveway and try to start it, you'll probably get the same result. ![]() To add to the Skeeter's deceptiveness, I incorporated an optical illusion that makes it look as though the unit were transparent. The back board is made of transparent tinted plastic.Through the plastic, you can see what appears to be the REVERSE SIDE of the printed logo. It looks as though light is traveling through the printed logo and completely through the board. How can you hide an impression device inside of a transparent object? YOU CAN'T. This is an illusion. The impression area is hidden between a "magnetic sandwich" that is less than 1/32" thick. If you wish, you can stick a small pad of post it notes on the back, plastic surface. This makes the Skeeter entirely self-contained. All you need is a writing implement and you're set to perform miracles. NO SPECIAL WRITING IMPLEMENT IS REQUIRED. Like the Brown Hornet, all you have to do is peel back the first magnetic layer to expose the enhanced Magic Slate beneath. I split the Magic Slate like a playing card to an incredibly thin layer, treat it to make it more sensitive, and recess it it into the back layer of the "sandwich" so that there is no visible bump or bulging of the upper surface. You can do this glimpse as you turn partially away, behind a screen such as a piece of paper or a book, as you put the Skeeter in your pocket, or between your cupped palms.
